Coconut oil has gained an amazing reputation over the past few years. And it’s no wonder! Praised as one of the healthiest foods to include in your diet thanks, it also has a myriad of health and wellness uses.


And, because of its drastic increase in popularity in recent years, it’s becoming more and more accessible. So, if you’ve haven’t bought some, right now is the perfect time to stock up and experiment with its many health uses that I’m about to tell you about.

 

1. Keeps your brain young

Of all the organs in your body, your brain especially needs healthy dietary fat. So, an international study led by the National Institutes of Health shows that a high-fat diet rich in medium=chain fatty acids from coconut oil can stave off signs of brain ageing.

2.  Promotes healthy blood pressure

According to new Brazilian study, combining exercise with coconut oil can decrease oxidative stress. Therefore, it can successfully reduce hypertension. Furthermore, it’s also good for lowering blood pressure because coconut oil is approximately 92 percent saturated fat and contains Omega-3 fatty acids. 

3. Improves oral health

The antimicrobial compounds in coconut help fight common oral pathogens. Furthermore, according to an Indian study, it can even contribute to oral health to a great extent.

4. Clears up acne

A study conducted by the University of California at San Diego found that lauric acid, a natural product in coconut oil, is a possible new acne treatment. Furthermore, in another study, Coconut oil also contains capric, caproic and caprylic medium-chain fatty acids which are also effective against the bacteria that cause acne.

5. Improves memory

A small study in spain revealed that coconut oil has a positive influence on the cognitive level of Alzheimer’s disease patients.

6. Acts as a natural moisturiser

You might already be using coconut oil on your skin, but if you’d like some proof – Researchers with the Department of Dermatology at the Makati Medical Center in the Philippines found that coconut oil can improve skin hydration even for severely dry skin.

7. Aids weight loss

Consumption of medium-chain fatty acids, such as those in coconut oil, can result in increased energy expenditures compared to long-chain fatty acids. In other words, the body can easily convert fat into energy for the body to use. Thus, this method is critical for people trying to lose weight because it helps boost your metabolism.

8. Fights candida

Researchers at Tufts University found that adding coconut oil to your diet can be the first drug-free way to control the overgrowth of candida.

9. Helps fight infections

 Lauric acid is the most abundant fatty acid comprising nearly 50% of the coconut’s fat content in coconut oil. This acid effectively eliminates a large variety of bacteria by disintegrating their lipid membrane and destroying the organism. Therefore, coconut oil and it’s potent lauric acid can help destroy the bacteria leading to dental cavities, stomach ulcers and food poisoning.

10. Improve arthritis

Researchers in India discovered the potential beneficial effects of polyphenolics found in virgin coconut oil. This is due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

11. Builds muscle

This oil is a highly “insulinotropic” substance. This means it greatly stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin. The main purpose of insulin is to control blood-sugar levels throughout your body and, also, pump nutrients into your muscles.

12. Helps slow bone loss

Japanese researcher discovered that coconut oil has a remarkably positive effect on bone metabolism. Therefore, ultimately slows down slow bone loss after menopause.
