Rumi Inspiration For a Wintery Weekend

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” Rumi

Out of all the inspirational quotes that we get to read,  I have to admit that Rumi’s poems are one of my favourite.  Rumi is one of the most widely read poets throughout the world, and it is clear as to why.  He was born in Persia in in 1207, and was both a scholar and a nobleman. In his 30s, he met Sham, and this unusual friendship transformed Rumi into “an impassioned seeker of truth and love.”

On this wintery Friday, I have decided that the best way to spend this weekend, is surrounded by family and friends.  Sipping on red wine, next to a fire place, and eating delicious stews, and curries.  And to add to this we can warm the cockles of our hearts, with a little Rumi inspiration.

Here are some of my favourite Rumi quotes:

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

Fortunate is he who does not carry envy as a companion.”

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

“Close your eyes. Fall in love. Stay there.”

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

“In silence there is eloquence.”

“Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”

“Truth lifts the heart like water refreshes thirst.”

“I searched for God and found only myself. I searched for myself and found only God.”

Once you conquer your selfish self, all your darkness will change to light.
