1. To ward off signs of ageing
Avocado contains vitamin E which works by reducing free radical damage – a contributing factor to the signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. The best way to use avocado for this purpose is to mash it and use it as an anti-ageing face mask.
2. Avocado hydrates dry skin
It also contains natural oils which make it great at sinking deep into your skin to keep it hydrated and reduce dryness and flaking. What you need to do is rub the inner layers of the avocado peel against your face and leave on for about 15 minutes. Don’t forget to rinse it off with warm water.
3. To soften your hair
The same rich and creamy hydrating oils that can nourish your skin can keep your hair hydrated and soft. Mash one avocado and mix with a little olive or coconut oil. Massage the mixture into your scalp using circular motions with your fingertips and leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo as usual with warm water.
4. To treat sunburn
In case you skipped sunscreen, which you shouldn’t, and you end up with a burn, an avocado can help soothe the red, inflamed skin. Dr Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research is dermatology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York recommends applying a cortisone cream or aloe vera gel in conjunction with the avocado.
