Pledges for the annual Santa Shoebox Project opened on 1 September. And, this year marks the 10th birthday of an initiative that has become one of South Africa’s favourite ways to give over the festive season.
From a humble 180 shoeboxes donated in its first year, the Santa Shoebox Project has now notched up more than half a million thoughtful shoeboxes. These were donated to underprivileged children across South Africa and Namibia.

Only 353 to 522 great white sharks left in South African waters
The magnificent great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias L.) is one of the oldest shark lineages with an evolutionary origin dating back about 14 million years. New research from Stellenbosch University (SU) shows that the South African white shark population is double jeopardy. Not only do these sharks have the lowest genetic diversity of all white shark populations worldwide, but there are also only between 353 to 522 individuals left.
The Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp foundation, is launching in Port Elizabeth. On the 19th August 2016, which, would have been Reeva’s 33rd Birthday. The foundation is planning to provide a bursary, to a law student, specialising in family law.
