“Being heard is so close to being loved, that for the average person, they are almost indistinguishable.” D. Augsberger
The wisdom of Louise Hay is incredible, and she says: Coughs are a caused by a desire to bark at the world, and a need to speak up. “Listen to me!” A need to be heard. Affirmation: “I am noticed and appreciated in the most positive ways. I am loved.” Keep saying this affirmation to yourself throughout the day.
I am not going to go into the various types of coughs here, or even the reasons, for coughing. There is loads of info that can be googled on the subject. But, one thing I know for sure, is that coughs can be extremely persistent. My son, and I have coughed for a month solidly, and we are driving the rest of the family mad, so I have decided that it is time to take action.
All the below cough remedies are natural.
Please be aware that if your cough is serious, or you have any other side effects, that you need to see a medical doctor for a check up. The positive, is that if you are on any medication, you can safely add any of the below without side effects.
Honey: A teaspoon full of honey is all you need to calm your cough, and can be eaten as is, or mixed into herbal teas, or lemon water.
Essential Oils: Peppermint, tea tree, frankincense.
Steam: It is preferably to keep a humidifier steaming 24/7, and adding oils to it if possible. Steaming your face over a bowl of boiling water, is also extremely effective.
Hot Toddy: I would suggest making it to your taste, but don’t add alcohol to your kiddies ones. The basic ingredients are brandy/ whiskey, fresh lemon juice, honey, hot water, and herbs.
Cough Mixture: Natural ones are preferable, as they have no side effects, like insomnia etc.
Vitamins: C, C, and C, and olive leaf tablets.
Fruit: Oranges, naartjies, apples, strawberries, and grapefruits.
Vegetables: Spinach, broccoli, and in fact anything dark green.
Alternative Therapies: Eft, reflexology, acupuncture, phsyiotherapy.
Homeopathy: Aconite, bryonia, phosphorous.
Herbs: Ginger, peppermint, cinnamon, licorice root, and thyme.
Sleep: Make sure you get at least 8 hours, and lie with your head elevated on 2 pillows.
I love my bamboo pillows, because I can mould them around my head and neck, so even with my head elevated, I still sleep comfortably.
