We have our own ideas of “healthy food”. It could be steamed chicken breast with a side of greens. Or, a plain and boring meal that’s not satisfying at all. But, “healthy food” doesn’t have to be bland and uninviting.

It’s time to stop sacrificing your favourite meals in the name of eating right. You can replace your traditional unhealthy with low-sugar-impact alternatives that taste just as great – if not better. You just need to be a little bit creative. So, we’ve put together four healthy dietary alternatives to your favourite unhealthy foods.

 

1. Replace your muffin with a smoothie

If you eat muffins in the morning, those sugar bombs set to explode by 10am, leaving you starving and feeling sluggish. Muffins also encourage fast, lasting fat loss and can sabotage your weight loss goals. No thank you! Why not enjoy a dairy- and soy-free smoothie that won’t only help you burn fat but leave you feeling satisfied until lunchtime!

2. Replace your whole-wheat wrap with a Paleo wrap

Whole-wheat wraps aren’t as healthy as you think. They are packed with loads of empty carbs and gluten that encourage your body to cling onto fat and drain your energy levels. So, swap the whole-wheat wraps out for Paleo wraps made from coconut meat. They’re not only delicious healthy alternatives but also don’t stall fat loss. Now, that’s one seriously nutritious lunch!

3. Replace potatoes with sweet potatoes

Potatoes don’t boast many nutritional benefits, but sweet potatoes do. They are packed with antioxidants that can prevent a host of diseases. Also, they have fibre that’s essential to your heart health and anti-inflammatory nutrients that can help prevent cancer. You can bake or mash them and enjoy with a little ghee. You can also make “fake” mashed potato by pureeing cauliflower.

4. Replace baked goods with dark chocolate and almond butter

Cupcakes can leave you with a harmful aftermath that involves energy crashes and unbearable cravings. Are they really worth it? Treat yourself to high-cacao dark chocolate spread with almond butter instead. You’ll satisfy your sweet tooth and also help keep your heart healthy and your blood sugar levels low. 

If you swap out unhealthy foods and replace them with more nutritious options, you’ll soon be more energetic! And, you won’t be feeling deprived.
