I read somewhere that “our heels are a bit like tomatoes. When you put too much pressure on them, they expand sideways and split.” With the hot weather, I find myself in flip flops and sandals all the time.
Because of this, my skin gets very dry and calloused. But if the cracks are deep, they become painful and in severe rare cases, can become infected. So, at the first sign of dry cracked heels, I turn to this awesome remedy.
How to care for your heels
Firstly, you need to soak your feet. This is very important because it helps soften and prepare your skin. Start by filling a foot spa or basin with warm water. Then add a cup of Epsom salt with a few drops of lavender essential oil. Allow your feet to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
Secondly, after your 10 minutes of soaking, grab a wash cloth and your foot scrub. Scrubbing will help you remove dry, dead skin. Also, it will smooth out rough patches and deep clean your heels.Take one foot out of the basin and scoop a tablespoon of scrub onto your foot. Start rubbing the scrub especially on your heel. Then take the wash cloth and start scrubbing in a circular motion all over your foot. After this process, put the scrubbed foot back in the water and repeat on the other foot. When you’re done, rinse off the scrub and pat your feet dry. You need to make your own wild orange and honey foot scrub for this. Here’s a quick recipe:
Making the scrub
Add 1 cup Epsom salt and 1 cup sugar to a small bowl. Stir in the 1 cup melted coconut oil and 8-10 drops wild orange oil. Add 2 tbsp raw organic honey, then stir well. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid.
Finally , you need to soften your feet. I love this part. It’s the best especially if you have a partner willing to give you a relaxing foot massage. You can use a natural cream or foot lotion that’ll deeply moisturize your heel.
For best results, repeat this process at least once a week until your heels start are silky smooth.
