Four Ways To Detox, Boost Energy And Improve Well-Being

Most people have heard of detoxing but also don’t know how it really works. While you might think a detox is complicated, it doesn’t really require you to go on an expensive raw juice cleanse as is sold.

In fact, your body detoxes naturally every single day! However, mornings are the ideal time to help your body get rid of toxins quicker. A Costa Rican-based Reiki therapist, Soizic June Hagège, put together four ways to detox, boost your energy and happiness.


Four tips to detox in the morning

1. Drink a cup of warm water

Hagège recommends replenish your body with warm water first thing in the morning. When you drink warm water on an empty tummy, it helps stimulate your digestive-colic reflex and boosts your metabolism. This in turn helps eliminate the waste from the day before that’s sitting in your gut. For extra effectiveness, Hagège suggests adding a few lemon slices to the water. You can even add a drizzle of raw honey for some sweetness. 

2. Blend a smoothie

A nutrient-dense smoothie is great for starting the day. Not only is it the best way to ensure you get everything your body needs, but it also helps avoid bloating. Less energy goes toward digestion with a smoothie than with a heavier breakfast meal, which leaves you feeling energetic and lighter throughout the day, says Hagège.

3. Try oil pulling with coconut or sesame oil

This ancient Ayurvedic practice often gets a lot of attention in the media due to its remarkable health benefits. The swishing coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for 10 minutes on an empty stomach can improve your oral as well as your overall health. This is because it helps draw toxins out of your whole body. According to Hagège, you need to spit the oil out into a trash can rather than the sink because it can clog drains.

4. Scrape toxins and bacteria from your tongue

One other Ayurvedic practice is tongue scraping. During this ritual, you literally scrape bacteria and toxins from the surface of your tongue. Hagège recomends performing this practice in the morning because your digestive system removes toxins from your body at night by moving them to your tongue. If you remove these toxins from your tongue as soon as you wake up, it will help you avoid swallowing them. This, in turn, helps prevent digestive problems. According to Hagège, tongue scraping is more efficient than brushing your teeth since most of the toxins in your mouth are found on your tongue. 

Follow these four detox steps and  watch how your energy levels will go up and how your overall well-being will improve.
