Hemp Seeds Benefits and How to Use Them

Hemp seeds on bread

If you’re looking to balance hormones,  improve digestion and improve metabolism, then hemp seeds may just be the superfood you’re looking for.

For a long time, hemp seeds were not considered for their nutritional benefits because of hemp’s botanical relationship to medicinal varieties of cannabis. But, they don’t cause any psychotropic reactions and instead may provide significant health benefits because of hemp’s unique nutritional profile.

Hemp seeds contain all 9 essential amino acids that you need to make a complete protein. So, if you’re looking for a vegan source of protein, hemp seeds are a perfect choice.

Also, they are high in both soluble and insoluble fiber, which is very important for your digestive health. Furthermore, the seeds are high in antioxidants, including vitamins A, C, and E and are rich in minerals. And they taste good too! Here’s how to use them:

You can increase the nutrient density of any leafy green salad by sprinkling 3-4 tablespoons of hemp seeds on top of before serving. Furthermore, they’re also great for blending into non-dairy salad dressings. This is because they add a beautiful thick creaminess. Also, the seeds give the dressing a boost in healthy fat. This helps our bodies absorb the fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, K, and E found in salads.

Hemp seeds don’t only add a protein punch and nutrition boost to smoothies, they’ll also give your smoothie a creamy texture. Also, if you want to have a nutty taste in your smoothie, don’t throw them in the blender. Garnish your smoothie with a tablespoon of the seeds!

How to make your own homemade milk with hemp seeds: Add 4 cups of water, 1 cup of hemp seeds and honey to the pitcher of a blender. You don’t have to soak the seeds. Puree and strain through cheesecloth or a nut milk bag and discard solids. You can then refrigerate your hemp milk in an airtight jar for up to three days. You can use your creamy homemade hemp milk in your smoothies. Furthermore, you can use it with cereal or porridge! Or you can click on the image below to order hemp milk.

I love pesto.I use it on my pizza, in pasta or as a sandwich spread. It whips up in a flash and lasts a few weeks in the fridge. But what makes my pesto different is the hemp seeds that are a complete protein. They add a slightly nutty flavor that contrasts the slight bitterness of the basil. Thus, making for a super healthy sandwich slather.

Hey Candice, They are sooo subtle that they add a healthy element without overpowering your pesto. An absolutely great way to use them.
