There are a variety of smoothie recipes you can try out – you probably know this. However, depending on the ingredients in the recipe, smoothies can have different nutritional properties and, of course, tastes.
If you’re looking a quick meal idea while you’re on-the-go, this nutrient-dense smoothie I’m about to tell you about is a far better option! It’s also a perfect option for the the occasional quick breakfast.
This smoothie contains a number of anti-ageing ingredients. Because blueberries are high in antioxidants, thus can help neutralize some of the free radicals that cause damage to our DNA. Furthermore, coconut milk contains a great fat to keep your skin glowing. In addition to anti-ageing, blueberries can help reduce oxidative damage, lower blood pressure, prevent heart disease, fight urinary tract infections and reduce muscle damage during strenuous exercise.
Power up your day with this blueberry smoothie recipe
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
Half a cup frozen pineapple
½ cup canned coconut milk (chilled in fridge for 20 minutes)
3 Medjool dates
1 cup ice (more to make it thicker)
Blend all ingredients to a high-powered blender until smooth and the fruit and ice chunks are gone. You can swap out any of the ingredients in the recipe above for other fruits and veggies. However, ensure you include ice or a frozen banana so that your base is thick and delicious.
After creating your smoothie base, pour it into a bowl (you may need to ease it out of the blender with a spatula if it’s extra thick). I love glass jars but once your smoothie is in your bowl of choice, load it up with your favourite toppings such as dried or fresh fruit, seeds, coconut flakes or nuts. Dig in and power up!
