There are a number of everyday kitchen herbs like rosemary and cilantro that you can use in your natural beauty routine. Almond oil and avocado, for example, are great for moisturising your skin and hair, while sea salt sloughs off dead skin cells.
I like natural products so, I spend time learning how to detox and create delicious (and totally edible!) beauty products that I can use instead of store bought ones. And, I want to share three of these recipes with you.
DIY recipes for your hair and skin
1. Refreshing skin toner
This toner is perfect for shrinking the appearance of pores and clarifying a dull or uneven skin tone. It’s suitable for all skin types.
1/3 cup finely chopped cilantro
4 tbsp finely chopped celery
3/4 cup boiling filtered water
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and allow to sit for 40 minutes. Then strain the mixture and use the liquid as a toner on your face, neck and upper body. Rinse off with warm water.
2. Invigorating body scrub
This scrub is great for blood circulation and improving skin tone. What’s more, you can use it on your face too.
2 tbsp sea salt
1 tbsp almond oil
1 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
3 drops organic lavender essential oil
Mix the sea salt, rosemary, almond oil and lavender essential oil in a small bowl. Rub the scrub onto your skin, then rinse with warm water.
3. Revitalising hair conditioner
This conditioner repairs and nourishes dead or dull hair. It helps give new life to hair that’s prone to breakage.
1 ripe avocado, pitted, peeled and mashed
1/2 cup full fat coconut milk, plus more if needed
1 tbsp chopped fresh mint
Mix the coconut milk, avocado and mint until the mixture is thick, then comb through your hair. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
