If you’ve been detoxing with us, you’re probably wondering what you should be eating now that the detox is over. Well, what we eat, and drink after we have detoxed, is probably more important than the detox itself.
A detox is window period, that we give ourselves, to make permanent changes to our diets. The biggest mistake that most people make after a detox, is not planning what they are going to eat, and drink when it ends. They plan on, how they will change their diets long term, but very seldom put much thought, and planning in the 1st few days immediately after detoxing. I have done this a couple of times, and ultimately defeated the purpose of my detox.
They usually begin their detoxes on a Monday, and if it is a 10 day detox, like the one we were doing, it ends the next Wednesday. They then have great plans to start their new healthy regime, the following Monday. If they are anything like me, guess what? On Saturday, and Sunday, they will eat all the food they can lay their hands on, drink loads of wine, and fill up on chocolate. Yes, I reward myself for completing my detox, by eating rubbish. Of course, when Monday arrives, I am terribly disappointed. Finally, the healthy eating, and no drinking of alcohol, never really happens.
Yesterday was day 10 of our challenge. Seven of us were doing it together, to motivate each other. We are on a whatsapp group, and it really made a huge difference going through starvation with others. We are keeping each other on track, and motivated. Now that the detox is over, I really want to stay motivated to lose a bit of weight, eat healthily, cut out sugar, and not to drink alcohol during the week. So, although we finished yesterday, what we eat this week is going to be vitally important, before we go our own merry ways, and eat what we please.
After doing a lot of research, this is what I suggest, for the 1st few days after detoxing.
Eat small amounts throughout the day, rather than big meals.
- Keep food as simple as possible
- The fresher the food the better
- Lightly steamed/ pureed vegetables are ideal
- Soups/ broth
- Green/ herbal/ matcha tea
- Warm lemon water
- Cranberry juice
- Fruit (only before midday)
- Brown rice/ quinoa
