This year, Roman’s Pizza’s is celebrating the day by focusing on programmes that work with children to acknowledge that the SA youth are the future of the country. This includes a cash donation of R10 000 towards establishing a large vegetable garden as part of the Feed A Child sustainability programme; providing Talent Etc Outreach with 15 large double boxes of Pizza, which will go to the Kruger Children’s Home in Pretoria, catering for around 60 children; donating R2000 to Compass.org in support of the 84 children in their care; giving the young patients in the Leratong Paediatric Ward 6 large double boxes of Pizza to brighten up their day (in partnership with the SAME Foundation); and sending a food parcel with spaghetti bolognaise, maize meal and chicken to the Ubuhle Christian School in Bronkhorstspruit, to feed 80 school children.

Mandela Day

According to Bonnie Lee, Head of Marketing for Roman’s Pizza, “Individual South Africans and brands alike have a responsibility to contribute to the future of this country. Mandela Day is a day for us to come together and do our bit to help.” She adds, “Roman’s Pizza has a history of getting involved in charitable initiatives, so it was a given that it would be a supporter of Mandela Day activities. We hope to bring a smile to some young faces on Friday.”

Thank you for taking time to read this email. My name is Kimmy Thaver and I am currently an education assistant at Coedmore Primary School located in Chatsworth Durban.I reached out to you because our school is I dire need of help.We have been classified as a low fee paying school and this is due to many of our children living in surrounding informal settlements and the lower lamontville and Umlazi areas. On some days it is difficult to even eat a sandwich knowing that some of our children did not bring lunches to school. Our classrooms do not have lights or fans and this is due to electrical issues which affect almost every classroom. Our walls have not been painted in such a long while and most of the time our principal takes care of necessities in her own personal capacity. We have considered fund raising within the school such as cake sales and raffles but our children and their parents simply cannot afford it.The educators are a bunch of charismatic people despite the heartbreaking conditions we teach in.We don't require much but some kind of facelift to the classrooms and some food donations to bring a smile to the many beautiful children that attend school at Coedmore.I hope that you will be in contact soon to discuss if there is anything at all that your organization can assist us with.Awaiting your response further.God bless you all. Kind regards Miss.K.Thaver EA Coedmore Primary School
