I’m sure you’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors enjoying activities such as hikes and picnics. Naturally, this is also that time of year when you bust out all the stops to get a sun-kissed gorgeous complexion. But if you haven’t stopped to think what that sunscreen and lip balm are doing to your body, then it’s time you started.
This is because of the thousands of different chemicals in these products, that are linked to numerous health problems including cancer. So, here are four non-toxic, natural products that will keep your skin healthy all season.
Four natural beauty remedies to replace some of those toxic products
1. Natural waxes and butters
Dry heat is usually the culprit behind dry skin and chapped your lips. Unfortunately, ingredients in lip balms, such as parabens, synthetic dyes derived from heavy metals and flavors filled with ingredients and damaging mineral oils can be harmful to your health. So, opt for natural lip balms made with natural waxes and butters instead, like plant wax and shea butter. These natural options will smooth and soothe your lips.
2. Natural oils
If you’ll spending time in the sun, you’ll still need sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. But you have to avoid the conventional kinds containing allergens, fragrances and high amount of vitamin A. These have been proven to speed up the growth of skin tumours! Luckily, there are a number of natural oils that are just as effective as non-toxic sunscreens. Some great examples are carrot seed oil, raspberry seed oil, coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil. Avobenzone and zinc oxide are also other good natural options for protecting your skin from the sun.
3. Essential oils
Sometimes nothing feels better than a spritz of the best body mist on a hot day. But when you spray these mists all over, your skin doesn’t only absorb the toxic ingredients but you inhale them, also! Perfumed body sprays contain synthetic fragrances, parabens as well as coumarin so this makes it dangerous. So, use a natural body mist using rose water and essential oils.
4. Aloe vera gel
Nothing calms inflamed skin like aloe vera gel. But the truth is that alot aloe vera products that you’ll find on the market contain unnecessary filler ingredients despite the product’s straightforward name. This can irritate your skin instead of soothe it. So, try to look for pure aloe vera gel that doesn’t contain ingredients such as Diazolidinyl urea, triethanolamine (TEA), DMDM hydantoin and fragrance.
