Three Sore Throat Remedies That Work

When your throat is sore and irritated, the only thing you want is relief. So, at the first sign of strained vocal cords, you reach out for over-the-counter meds to relieve it quickly. But, how many are you really going to down.

Well, I want to share some of the best natural remedies for a sore throat that are in fact in your home. Don’t forget to try them out when that sore throat strikes.

 

How to soothe your sore throat

1. Gargle honey

Honey contains an enzyme called ‘glucose-oxidase’, that helps fight infections. Furthermore, it has anti-inflammatory properties that help lessen swelling, as well as soothe irritation.Surprisingly enough, honey is an excellent remedy for a sore throat. This is because it coats the throat and has mild but effective antibacterial properties. All you’ve to do is mix two or three teaspoons of raw honey with one tablespoon of lemon or apple cider vinegar into one cup of warm water.

2. Gargle Saltwater

When you gargle salt water you pull out a lot of fluids from the tissues in the throat area. This draws moisture from the mucus membranes, helping clear your throat of phlegm. Also, because salt acts as a magnet for water, you create a high-salt barrier when you gargle. All you have to do is dissolve half a teaspoon of sea salt in one cup of warm water and gargle three times a day.

 

3. Gargle Peppermint

Menthol, the active pharmaceutical ingredient in peppermint gives it its amazing soothing properties. This is what helps to open up your nasal passages. Simply pour one cup of boiling water over two peppermint tea bags and allow it to steep for five minutes. Try to sip on it while it’s hot. For immediate relief, you can also gargle the peppermint solution once its cooled.
