This year, there are NO excuses for not getting your best summer body! I am pretty sure you have seen a lot of people out and about working on their fitness and health regime.
You don’t want to be the one that is trying to squeeze in workouts the first week of December while everyone else has been on the fitness train for months.
Which is why we decided to put together the ultimate summer shape up plan to get you started for the summer season in collaboration with Maaji SA
Lets start with Health & Nutrition:
I am sure you have heard that your diet makes up the majority of your progress, and yes we could not agree more. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring, or tasteless, however it does need to be done!
We put together a list of different and exciting foods to try this summer to combat those cravings:
Frozen Grapes: If you haven’t tried frozen grapes, you haven’t lived life… This is the most simple, yet tastiest snack. Purchase a box of seedless grapes and pop them in the freezer. They taste like little balls of grape flavoured lollies. You will absolutely love this.
Something Refreshing? Cranberry Slush! Mix One-half cup cranberry juice and 1 tsp fresh lime juice blended with 1 cup ice cubes and Voila! There you have a healthy and refreshing spritzer.
Make Your Own Trail Mix: Don’t opt out for sweets or chips. If you feeling like something sweet and salty mix some sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries and raisins into a container, and grab some on the go to keep your energy levels up.
Coconut Oil Popped Popcorn: Mix two tablespoons of coconut oil and some healthy mixed herbs into a bot and bring the oil to boil. Add in popcorn kernels, and there you have a low kcal snack that is tasty too!
Fitness & Exercising:
It is important to establish a baseline of exercises, but more so it is important to understand the exercises and notice progression over time. Exercising does not always mean you must push yourself to your limits, you need to also remember that down-time is a great recovery.
Stretch For Strength: Stretching those tired muscles promotes faster recovery and prevents injuries from happening. Stretch at least once a day, but if you have time it is best to stretch before and after you workout.
Blast The Fat: Have you ever tried HIIT? Meaning High Intensity Interval Training. Pushing your body through quick bursts of intense exercise is a very quick way to burn fat. There are many ways you can incorporate HIIT into your routine such as: Skipping, Running and HIIT Programmes like Kayla Itsines.
Nominate A Mate: Skip those coffee and cake dates with your girls, and rather have a catch up over a workout. My friends and I have started doing our weekly ‘dates’ by walking on the beach or hiking up the mountain while still catching up with what we would have over coffee and cake.
