Wanderlust: London

London phone booth

I recently travelled to London for two weeks, and thought I would share some great experiences I  had. If you are heading that side of the world and have the chance to see any of these places I would highly recommend you do so.

“Wanderlust: A strong, innate desire to travel about”

I’m not going to bore you on the usual sight seeing’s (even though they are amazing, it’s probably information you would come across all the time). BUT, if you plan on doing some I would say the few favourites I did on my trip before were:

  • London Eye
  • Tower of London
  • Big Ben
  • Buckingham Palace
  • Tate Modern
  • Madame Tussauds

And now, time for the exciting stuff!!

ME Hotel

For the first couple days we stayed Delaire at one of London’s most exquisite upmarket hotels, situated in Strand. The centre of London, walking distance to Covent Garden, River Thames and Trafalgar Square. There is perfect retail therapy for the ladies at Burberry, Dior, Chanel and Michael Kors while the men relax and have a beer in the square.

Freemasons Hall

Otherwise known as ‘The Grand Lodge cheap jerseys of England’ is the headquarters and meeting place for the Masonic Lodges in the London area. This, we found very interesting, as my great grandfather was a Freemason in his day. The Freemasons are one of the most secretive and controversial religious groups in the world. Furthermore, only once my great grandfather had passed on, the family came to the realization that he was a Freemason at his funeral after relatives were refused access to his casket or to carry it through the church. There were several men, dressed in black suits that did not interact with any guests. And exited as quietly as they entered.

Freemasons don’t define what they are or what they do. In addition, the Freemasonry organisation has public information available. However, they are very scarce to discuss any details with non-masonic friends. From what I gather, their membership is public and if they are asked if they are part of the organization they are allowed to say yes, but the majority would prefer to keep it secret.

A few things I learnt about the Freemasons:

1. They have a secret handshake
2. Also, they wear a masonic ring
3. Atheists are not welcome in the organization
4. The Freemasons have secret passwords and phrases they express to each other
5. Lastly, they have good morals and good reputations

Borough Market

We really have some of the most amazing markets in Cape Town. South African food, in my opinion, is hard to beat. A few of my favourite food markets are the V&A Waterfront, The Root44 and the Hout Bay Oil one. But the size in comparison to the Borough market is non comparable. This is one of the most festive markets I have ever been to where I was so spoilt for choice I filled up on some delicious foods.

So, I indulged in an Italian Pizza, a slice of Greek Baklava, some French Champagne and the world’s largest chocolate chip cookie I have EVER seen! I left with a few goodies from the market.

But first, COFFEE!

When you have big days ahead of you, what better what to start off with a cup of coffee? So, we forgot that at Costa’s you DON’T order a medium coffee, it’s larger than my face. But I persisted in drinking the whole cup because it tasted so good. Needless to say, I was buzzing By pretty much the rest of the day, so we decided to do some Oxford & Regent Street Shopping. This was a success! But after having way too much energy, I learnt my lesson and opted out for the Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced Latte (delicious is an understatement).

Bond Street

Hmmm… Let’s just say Bulgari, Victoria’s Secret, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Dolce & Gabana, Gucci, Chanel, wholesale nfl jerseys Dior, Hermés, La Perla, Chanel, and Miu Miu. The List goes on. Enough Said!

Hamley’s, Harrods and Liberty

More shops shops shops. These are all a must see! Hamley’s is the oldest and most well-known toy shop in the world, its real fun for all ages. Also, Harrods is an upmarket department store and a well-known tourist attraction for gifts. Liberty! This was my first time seeing Liberty, my friend Andy took us around the streets and showed us some cool things, one that resonates in my mind the most is Liberty, we had so much to see and so little time, I will be back.

Noting Hill

This cosmopolitan district is home to many pretty Victorian houses as well as the Portobello Road market. It always reminds me of the Movie with Julia Roberts. We stopped over on our way home for some sushi at Itsu. The area used to be very run down, but over the years they have upgraded it with vintage shops and trendy spots.

The Poppy Display

The opportunity to see this display doesn’t come around, so we were so excited to see it. An artist, by cheap nba jerseys the name of Paul Cummins made thousands of ceramic poppies and displayed them around the Tower of London to mark 100 years since the day Britain two went to war. Each flower represents a life lost. Once the display is finished, people will be able to purchase a poppy with all proceedings going to the organization.

Fulham, London

For my last couple of days in London, I stayed at my family in Fulham, London. This gorgeous town is home to many of the rich and famous. I spent my days shopping at the boutique stalls on the roads. Also, lunching with the ladies and sipping on tea while enjoying a large selection of Lauderée Macaroons. Furthermore, I experiences the good old game of Bridge and explored the phenomenal Westfields shopping centre not far out.

One thing that really stood out, was the Chelsea Harbour Club. Now, I’m not Ingushetia, going to get ahead of myself and say I gymed while on vacation. I think after all the good food and chocolate I ate I should have, but I had a spectacular lunch at the harbour club, and was shown all the facilities around. It’s pretty close to being a 5 star hotel, not a gym.

Overall, wholesale jerseys my trip was amazing, there was so much more that I saw wholesale jerseys and so much more I wanted to see. Also, the Rican sun was out the majority of the time. So,  I didn’t experience the London snow like the previous trip I went, but if it weren’t for the cold wet weather in winter, I could definitely live in London. Until next time.
