Bananas have a reputation for being bad for you. However, when it comes to the top sleep-inducing foods, bananas are one of the best! Surprising right? Well, I also was when I first found out. I usually have bananas blended into my smoothies in the morning.

However, the trick is to eat about an hour or two before bed, giving your body time to digest them. Bananas contain nutrients that help increase he most vital stages of sleep – REM sleep, also called “dream stage” in your sleep cycle. And, today, I want to tell you about these sleep inducing nutrients.

1: Bananas are super-rich in calming magnesium

There are a lot of people deficient in the vital mineral magnesium that don’t even know it. Common signs of deficiency include trouble relaxing, digestive problems and muscle cramping. So, do get your levels checked by your doctor if you think you may be running on low. Luckily, bananas are packed with magnesium and will help you relax before bed for a good night’s rest.

2: Bananas are chock-full of fatigue-reducing potassium

Potassium actually complements magnesium to enhance sleep by regulating blood pressure and aiding digestion. Usually, your blood pressure levels drops at night, which is the sign of a healthy heart. But, if your potassium levels are low, you can experience heart irregularities and fatigue. Bananas have a super-impressive potassium content.

3: Bananas are packed with mood-boosting tryptophan

Tryptophan is an amino acid and precursor to serotonin and melatonin, both of which are essential for a good night’s sleep. Serotonin is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that regulates your mood while melatonin controls your circadian rhythm. This can influence the hormones you produce throughout the day and night. So, why wouldn’t you eat bananas?
